Abstract
Video segmentation refers to partitioning video into spatial, temporal or spatio-temporal regions that are homogeneous in some feature space. It is an integral part of many video analysis, including: (i) video summarization, indexing and retrieval, (ii) advanced video coding, (iii) video authoring and editing, (iv) improved motion estimation, (v) 3-D motion and structure estimation with multiple moving objects, and vi) video surveillance/understanding. Specific video segmentation methods should be considered in the context of the requirements of the application in which they are used.
Factors that affect the choice of a specific segmentation method include
• Real-time performance
• Precision of segmentation
• Scene complexity
In depth study of video segmentation will be undertaken, and an attempt to derive novel, optimized methods to automate system for segmenting the personal videos based on the context and to annote the video accordingly.
