Abstract
For the recent trend there is problem encountered of the failure of material due to the poor impact strength of weld joint. During the transportation of neutral gases (LPG), oil and application of material at sub-zero (less than 0°C) temperature. This problem is overcome by the use of alloying element in the welding such as chromium, manganese, titanium, cobalt. For the present work titanium is used to improve the impact strength of the material by using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).Three compositions of titanium dioxide (TiO2: 10%, 12%, 14%) is selected with three different levels of welding current 100amp, 110amp &120amp. The impact strength is improved by increasing the titanium dioxide (TiO2) content in the weld metal, because titanium promotes ferritic structure with increase in titanium and improves the ductility of the material.
