Abstract
Nowadays, Distributed applications are collaborating dynamically for resource acquisitions and service interactions. But the dynamism leads to new security challenges. The collaboration between several heterogeneous realms has to be done dynamically at run time. Secure collaborations among the realms cannot be done without direct cross-realm authentication relationship and it is difficult to enable any secure relationship between the web services. The solution to this problem is to locate the intermediate realms at runtime which provides an authentication path between them. But, providing an authentication path between two distributed services is highly complicated. It requires several credential conversions and involves a chain of invocations to intermediate services. In this paper the problem is addressed by presenting a new cross-realm authentication protocol for dynamic service interactions based on the notion of multi-party business sessions. This protocol requires neither credential conversion nor establishment of any authentication path between session members.
