Abstract
Boiler is a widely used steam generating system in industries and power plants. A significant portion of the world energy consumption is being used in boilers. A small improvement on the boiler efficiency will help to save a large amount of fossil fuels and to reduce CO2 emission. Ammonia based refrigeration systems are one of the most abundant systems employed in large & medium commercial milk chilling plants in India. A trans-critical CO2 heat pump system with IHX is coupled ammonia based refrigeration systems for waste heat utilization. The waste heat is utilized to pre-heating the boiler feed water and thereby energy consumption. CO2 is one of the few non-toxic and non-flammable working fluids that do not contribute to ozone depletion or global warming, if leaked to the atmosphere. Because the critical temperature of CO2 is only 31.1°C, the transcritical cycle can be used to improve the coefficient of performance of the system.
