Abstract
Concrete is one of the oldest manufactured construction material used in construction of various structures around the world. Due to its high demand the material used for concrete production depleting every year. Thus, an investigation on searching for alternative material which has potential to replace the use of granite aggregate in concrete mix is very much in need. The objective of this study is to use local laterite aggregate as replacement of coarse aggregate and to study the engineering properties of concrete. Granite aggregate has been replaced by 10, 20, and 30% with laterite aggregate. All the specimens were subjected to water curing until it is ready to be tested. Tests on compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength and workability have been carried out. From the study it can concluded that the laterite can be used as the replacement for the coarse aggregate up to 10%. The concrete with 10% laterite aggregate replacement is showing similar properties in the hardened and fresh state as that of the normal concrete.
