        abstract = {With the development of modern technologies, now-a-days smart home concept in metro cities has become very popular. It includes various features for security, surveillance & appliance control. This work proposes an approach to enhance old appliances and the controlling experience through an IoT based Home Appliance Controlling System. With sensors the appliances can be controlled using relays as switch. The sensor data are processed by single-board computer and deliver an email through SMTP and SMS alerts through WAY2SMS protocol to the mobile and web applications. The results of implementation and experimentation has shown the proposed system and platform can provide more IoT application possibilities daily life.  By this, we offer a scalable and cost effective Home automation and surveillance system.},
