  • Abstract:
  • The increased focus on sustainable mobility and environmental protection has vindicated the shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) in the world. The adoption in semi urban areas such as Betul District in Madhya Pradesh however is quite low because of different degrees of awareness, availability of infrastructures and trust of the brands. This paper examines the attitude, determinant, and brand preference of customers towards the adoption of EVs in the Betul District. The study examined the perception about cost, environmental concern, technological trust, charging convenience, battery performance, and after sales service using a structured questionnaire given to 150 respondents. Statistical methods such as descriptive analysis, reliability tests, correlation, regression and ANOVA were used The results indicated that the level of environmental concern, price affordability, technological trust, awareness and battery performance have a significant impact on EV purchase intention. Additionally, there is a distinct difference in the brand preference of consumers whereby some brand is widely preferred due to perceived reliability, features and quality of service. The research finds out that the attitude of consumers towards EVs is fairly positive, still infrastructural constraints and price sensitivity is a significant hindrance in Betul. The acquired insights may assist policy makers and manufacturers to improve the EV adoption strategies by improving their in-frastructure, promoting awareness campaigns, and marketing their brands.
