  • Abstract:
  • In the context of globalization, communication and intercultural competence have emerged as fundamental prerequisites for effective participation in global education. This paper critically examines the role of intercultural competence encompassing cognitive, affective, and behavioural dimensions in fostering meaningful cross-cultural communication within educational environments. It argues that global education must extend beyond linguistic fluency to include the development of intercultural awareness, empathy, open-mindedness, and adaptive communication strategies that facilitate mutual understanding among culturally diverse learners. Drawing upon theoretical frameworks from intercultural communication studies and international education, the discussion highlights pedagogical approaches that integrate intercultural learning into curricula, such as experiential learning, transnational collaboration, and reflective intercultural dialogue. The analysis further considers barriers to effective intercultural education, including ethnocentrism, linguistic hierarchies, and structural inequalities that limit equitable participation. The paper concludes that embedding communication and intercultural competence within educational policy and practice is essential for nurturing global citizenship and ethical leadership. Such integration contributes to the development of learners capable of navigating complex, multicultural contexts with critical awareness and respect for diversity. Ultimately, intercultural competence is not merely a supplementary skill but a transformative element that underpins the pedagogical vision of global education in the 21st century.
