  • Abstract:
  • The rapid expansion of the gig economy has transformed labor markets by offering flexible employment opportunities. However, concerns regarding gender discrimination, income inequality, and lack of social security persist. This study empirically examines the socio-economic conditions of women gig workers, focusing on algorithmic bias, work allocation, income disparity, and job security. Using primary data collected from 35 women gig workers in Mumbai, along with secondary sources, the study applies descriptive and regression analysis to assess the impact of digital platforms on women’s employment outcomes. The findings reveal significant gender-based disparities in earnings, work opportunities, and access to social protection. The study concludes that while gig work provides flexibility and opportunities, it also reveals structural inequalities unless supported by inclusive policy interventions.
