  • Abstract:
  • Two oxidovanadium complexes viz. [VVOL(8-HQ)] (1) and [VIVOL´(phen)] (2) (H2L=2-(2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)-3-phenylpropanoic acid, H2L´=2-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)-3-phenylpropanoic acid, 8-HQ=8-hydroxy quinoline, phen=1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized (Scheme 2) and characterized by elemental analyses and various spectroscopic techniques. Schiff base ligands H2L and H2L´ were prepared insitu by condensation of salicylaldehyde/ o-vanillin with L-phenylalanine in ethanol. Interaction of 1, 2 with DNA was ascertained by UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopy. Photocatalytic dye degradation efficiency of complexes towards cationic and anionic organic dyes viz. methylene blue (MB) and brilliant blue (BB) was assessed under visible light by UV-visible spectroscopy. The degradation kinetics of the synthesized complexes were also evaluated using first order kinetic model. Both the complexes exhibit moderate dye degradation efficiency.
