Abstract
Problem Statement: Software effort estimation is an important task in software engineering both over estimation and under estimation will lead to problems. Hence an accurate estimation is needed before the implementation of the software starts. Approach: In the proposed system effort estimation is done using UCP (Use Case Point) method. An automated tool is developed using this UCP approach. UML Use Case diagram is converted into XMI format using UML conversion tools, then that XMI file is parsed to obtain the complexity values. These complexity values are obtained automatically by the proposed tool using keywords. Based on the complexity values UCP can be calculated. Finally effort is calculated based on the UCP value. Result: Effort needed to create the software will be obtained. Conclusion: We are planning to extend this tool to include more keywords and to calculate the cost needed for the creation of the software also.
