Abstract
Plastic has become a part of our world since the past few decades. Waste plastic which is easily available in the environment in the form of polymers like polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene show adhesion property in their molten state. Plastics will increase the melting point of the bitumen and this waste plastic bitumen mix forms better material for pavement construction as the mix shows higher Marshall Stability value and suitable Marshall Coefficient. Plastic can be used in the design of the pavement with respect to IRC specifications, to increase the strength of the pavement .The use of these materials in road construction is based on technical, economic and ecological criteria. Waste plastic is taken from ground and add 5 to 20% to fine aggregate, then added to Bitumen. Use of shredded plastic waste acts as a strong” binding agent” for bitumen making the asphalt last long and this combination of waste plastic along with bitumen induces high strength and increase life span of roads. Experimental results shows that using plastic waste in mix helps in reduction of needed bitumen by around 15 %, increase the strength and performance of road along with avoiding the use of anti stripping agent and disposal of plastic waste by incineration, land filling and ultimately develop a technology, which is eco friendly. Increased traffic conditions are reducing the life span of roads and thus these Plastic roads are means of prevention and ultimately will be the cure which saves lakhs of money in future and reduce the amount of resources used for construction
