PERFORMANCE EVALUATION FOR THERMAL COMFORT OF AN UFAD SYSTEM BY ORIENTATION CHANGES USING CFD

Abstract
A 3D-CFD investigation of airflow, temperature distribution and thermal comfort in laboratory room of a university air conditioned with under floor air distribution (UFAD) system is presented for different operating and geometric conditions. Simulations are implemented, using a commercial CFD package (Fluent 14.5), to understand the effects of supply air temperature, supply air velocity, space height and number of supply air diffusers on the performance of the air conditioning system and thermal comfort. The airflow and temperature distribution in the conditioned space, UFAD system is capable of creating smaller vertical variations of air temperature and a more comfortable environment and energy saving the supply air velocity and temperature, number of diffusers and height of the space have a significant impact on thermal comfort. The results showed that the best location for uniform temperature distribution is the diffuser is of circular shape and window must be divided in parts which provides more thermal comfort as compare to previous model and improved
