|Application of short duration rainfall is necessary in analysis, planning and design of natural storm drainage system. Present study is Markandeya watershed Belagavi District Karnataka. Geographically at a 75⁰52’08.77” to 76⁰22’16.66” E longitude and 13⁰10’50.77” to 13⁰27’39.95” N latitude. It covers an area 1028.38 sq.km. Daily rainfall data of 8 stations for the years 1988 to 2015 collected from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD empirical reduction formula was used to estimate the short duration rainfall. The rainfall depth for various return periods were predicted using different probability distributions. The Chi-Square goodness of fit was used, to arrive at the best statistical distribution among Normal and Gamble’s distribution. Chi-Square showed that Normal distribution is the best probability distribution. The IDF curves were plotted for short duration rainfall of 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 120, 720, 1440 minutes for a return period of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years for stations with peak rainfall values.|
