abstract = {Business English, a branch of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), differs from General English primarily in its focus on business-related vocabulary and contexts. The Business Communication course offered to undergraduate commerce and management students largely emphasizes written communication while neglecting oral competencies essential for professional success. This study investigates the relevance of the current syllabus and pedagogical approaches in fostering communicative competence aligned with industry requirements. Employing a quantitative research design, data were gathered through a Google Form questionnaire administered to English faculty teaching this course across colleges in Gujarat. The findings indicate that students’ English communication skills remain inadequate upon course completion. The existing curriculum and instructional methods fail to effectively enhance communicative performance. The study underscores the need for ESP practitioners to redesign the syllabus and integrate more interactive and practical approaches to develop students’ overall communication competence in business contexts.},
