  • Abstract:
  • The Smart City Mission, launched by the Government of India in 2015, represents a transformative initiative aimed at urban renewal and sustainable development across 100 cities. This study examines the impact of the Smart City Mission on vendors in Salem City, Tamil Nadu, focusing on economic growth, job creation, inclusivity, diversity, and technological adaptation. Using empirical analysis and field survey methods with 45 respondents from three key locations—Old Bus Stand, Thirumanimutharu Nalangadi, and V.O.C Market—the study employs correlation and simple percentage analysis. The findings reveal significant positive impacts, including increased revenue for 82.22% of vendors, infrastructure improvements for 68.89%, and employment generation for 55.56%. However, challenges persist, including limited awareness (42.22%) and funding disparities. The study concludes that while the Smart City Mission has fostered notable advancements, policymakers must address inclusivity concerns to ensure sustainable and equitable urban development.
