  • Abstract:
  • In this work, the transfer of heat with water based nanofluids was experimentally compared to that of pure water as coolant in an water cooled condenser. By varying the amount of TiO2 and MgO nanoparticles blended with base fluid water, two different concentrations of nanofluid namely 0.25 % to 0.50 % (by vol.) were obtained. These nanofluids were allowed to flow through the vertical tubes present in the radiator test rig which was indigenously developed for the testing purpose. The flow rate was varied from 0.05 kg/s to 0.15 kg/s, while the fluid inlet temperature was varying from 35°C to 59°C to find the optimum inlet condition. The heat transfer rate was found to be increasing with an increase in volume flow rate, nanoparticle concentration and the inlet temperature of nanofluids at the radiator entry. The heat transfer correlations for different concentrations of nanofluid solution were also developed and reported in this research work. To determine the most influencing parameter out of the three operating parameters that were under consideration, an optimization technique was also being carried and their results were also reported in this work.
