  • Abstract:
  • The growth of the gig economy has transformed employment structures in urban India by expanding flexible and platform-based work opportunities. This study examines the sustainability of gig-based employment in Udaipur City, focusing on economic security, work autonomy, and the platform and policy environment. Primary data were collected from 180 gig workers across diverse sectors using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire. Reliability analysis confirmed internal consistency, and non-parametric methods were employed due to non-normal data distribution. The findings reveal moderate agreement regarding income stability and long-term career sustainability, stronger agreement on flexibility and work autonomy, and cautious agreement concerning platform practices, policy support, and future opportunities. Significant differences in sustainability perceptions were observed across gig worker categories, indicating uneven experiences within the gig workforce. The study highlights the need for strengthened institutional support and policy interventions to enhance the long-term sustainability of gig-based employment in emerging urban settings.
