  • Abstract:
  • Occupational health and safety play a vital role in employee well-being and organizational effectiveness, particularly in labour-intensive industries such as rice mills. This study aims to identify the health and safety practices followed in rice mill industries, assess employee awareness and perceptions of workplace safety measures, and evaluate the impact of these measures on employee satisfaction. The study is confined to rice mill employees in the Ballari district of Karnataka. A descriptive research design was adopted, and primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire using convenience sampling. A total of 90 responses were collected from employees and workers across various rice mills. Data were analysed using tables and graphical representations. The findings reveal that a significant proportion of employees expressed concerns regarding the adequacy of safety equipment, fire safety measures, visibility of safety signage, and regular health check-ups. While some employees reported satisfaction with workplace cleanliness and safety training, a considerable number remained neutral or dissatisfied, indicating inconsistency in implementation. Limited emergency preparedness, divided opinions on management responsiveness, and mixed perceptions regarding the impact of safety measures on productivity, stress reduction, and job satisfaction were also observed. Overall, the results highlight gaps in safety awareness, training, and employee involvement, emphasizing the need for improved safety practices and stronger safety culture in rice mill industries.
