Abstract
This paper presents a case study in the development and application of a time study in a Casting Industry. This paper focused on crucial side of productivity improvement with the proper use of work and time study technique in manufacturing industry. Work and time study technique is one of the productivity improvement techniques used in manufacturing companies. The aim of the study is to optimize the process parameters and shift schedules such that the overall throughput is maximized while the cost incurred is minimized. Solution will result in reduced manufacturing cost of the product and increase in the productivity. After the analysis of the existing time required for each tasks such as non-value added time, value added time and production time has been observed. Work and time study is done to find the ineffective time (idle time) and working time in each operation. Simulation experiments were conducted by using ARENA software for existing database. Within this paper Time study technique is used to optimization of machining line Simulation methodology has been conducted to verify and validate the existing situation as well as proposed results i.e. for predicting line output. For simulation of line, ARENA simulation software is used.
