Controlling Railway Gates Using Automata Based Intelligent Controller

In recent days, it is observed that the rates of accidents are rapidly increasing at Railways crossings. Due to poor maintenance and casual manual handling, the rate of accidents is increasing, signifying an urgent need of an automatic system. The demand of Railway Gate Control System (RGCS) is rising, providing a scope of improvement. This paper deals with Deterministic Finite Automata (DFA) and Unified Modelling Language (UML), explained through sequential flowcharts. Vienna Development Method Real Time (VDMRT) is used for mathematical purposes. VDMRT has a high level of abstraction than other general-purpose languages. The operations of the railway gate are controlled by UART 8051 microcontroller, explained via sequential diagram. This paper is an easier approach to make the RGCS automatic and independent of any human control.
