Abstract
Abstract – In this study, an attempt is made that 220 Kv transmission line tower is modelled using Staad Pro. The tower is designed in Staad Pro. in the seismic zone V. Tower is modelled using parameters such as height, bracing system, angle sections and base width. The loads are calculated from IS:802 (1995) and IS 1893 (Part 1). After this, a proportionally scaled substructure test was performed to evaluate the failure mode of the transmission tower subjected to seismic action. A loading scheme was devised to reproduce the seismic load acting on the prototype transmission tower. The load was enforced on the model structure using shaking table. From the experiment, results such as load-displacement curves, displacements, base shear and strain of members are obtained and compared with the results obtained from Staad Pro analysis.
