Abstract:
The exposure of language is very important to develop a formal language, but it does not mean that it makes the communication effective. To make a communication effective, it is very important to know what the speaker wants to say and convey the message, so that the receiver can understand it and give a feedback for the effectiveness of communication. In India, every state has its own mother tongue. In educational curriculum, mother tongue is referred as language 1 and English is considered as language 2. English is compulsory subject in every state till 12th standard. Simultaneously other subjects are also taught in English language. As English is the second language and it is not the mother tongue of the teachers and learners, it becomes very difficult to understand. To make understand the students, teachers use mother tongue. For any language learning process, mother tongue plays vital role. With the help of this mother tongue, the students understand the concept clearly which is in English. This is called the use of bilingual method in English language teaching.
