Women empowerment is a process in which women challenge the existing norms and culture, to effectively promote their well-being. Social empowerment addresses the social discrimination existing in the society. The participation of women in self-help groups (SHG’s) made a significant impact on their empowerment both in social and economic aspects. This study addresses social empowerment of women through self-help groups in Tirupati District of Andhra Pradesh. The data required for the study was collected from both the primary and secondary sources. The study was conducted on 500 SHG women belonging to NGO-RASS. Multi-stage random sampling was used to collect the sample. The conceptual framework and the results of the study revealed that the SHG’s have had greater impact on social aspects of the beneficiaries and their standard of living and decision-making capacity remarkably improved after joining the SHG.
