Abstract
Experimental values of various parameters were obtained by adopting standard procedures. These obtained experimental values were compared with the standard values proposed by international bodies such as the World Health Organization. The values were then substituted into the mathematical expression to calculate the WQI. Water quality indexing is a simple and convenient way of expressing water quality that results in a single numerical value from which it can easily be suggested whether the water is fit for human consumption. India has a great cultural heritage. Its civilizations are recorded in world history. Samples were collected from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, according to standard procedures. Various physical and chemical parameters such as pH, alkalinity, total dissolved solids, electrical conductivity, calcium and magnesium ions and total hardness were analyzed and the results were compared with WHO and ISI standards.
