  • Abstract:
  • This article investigates the impact of socio-economic factors on student performance in Paschim Bardhaman District, West Bengal. Education is a critical determinant of future success, yet disparities in academic achievement are often rooted in socio-economic conditions. This study examines key socio-economic variables such as family income, parental education, access to educational resources, and the broader social environment, and their influence on student outcomes. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was collected through surveys, interviews, and secondary sources, involving a diverse sample of students across different socio-economic backgrounds. The findings reveal significant correlations between socio-economic status and academic performance, with students from higher-income families generally achieving better academic results due to enhanced access to resources, supportive home environments, and higher parental involvement. In contrast, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds often face barriers such as limited access to educational materials, lower-quality schooling, and reduced parental support, which negatively impact their academic achievements. This study highlights the persistent educational inequalities in Paschim Bardhaman District and underscores the need for targeted interventions to bridge the achievement gap. Recommendations include policy measures aimed at improving resource allocation, enhancing parental engagement, and providing additional support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. By addressing these socio-economic disparities, it is possible to create a more equitable educational environment that enables all students to reach their full potential. The findings of this study contribute to the broader discourse on education and socio-economic inequality, offering insights for policymakers and educators alike.
