  • Abstract:
  • As the rollout of 5G mobile radio networks accelerates worldwide, the wireless research community is already strategizing for the successor to 5G. This paper emphasizes the limitations of 5G in addressing the demands of increasingly data-heavy, low-latency, and ultra-reliable applications. We then outline the key features of the 6G network using a structured approach that encompasses social, economic, and technological dimensions. Additionally, we examine several critical technologies anticipated to facilitate the transition to 6G. Finally, we quantify and summarize research efforts related to beyond 5G and 6G networks through a comprehensive review of publications and research teams, and we propose a potential timeline for 6G initiatives.
