  • Abstract:
  • The rapid urbanization in Berhampore has led to the proliferation of slums, resulting from rural-to-urban migration, informal employment, and inadequate urban planning. This research employs spatial analysis to map slum clusters and identify disparities in infrastructure, such as water supply, sanitation, and housing. Key findings reveal that slum residents predominantly engage in informal economic activities, with limited access to stable incomes or savings. A significant portion lives below the poverty line, with housing primarily characterized by temporary structures lacking basic amenities. Spatial disparities highlight a strong correlation between slum locations and proximity to urban employment centers, transport hubs, and underutilized urban land. The geospatial perspective provides actionable insights for targeted interventions, emphasizing the need for sustainable urban development policies to improve the socio-economic conditions of Berhampore's slum residents.
