  • Abstract:
  • The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 underscores the importance of integrating Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into the educational framework, viewing this as a cultural necessity rather than merely an academic endeavour. This integration aims to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and modern education. Indian texts and cultural contexts offer rich, untapped resources for teaching topics like environmentalism, equality and gender fluidity. Exploring these narratives through comparative analysis with other cultures can deepen our understanding of gender, highlighting both shared themes and unique perspectives. Engaging critically with these stories allows us to examine how ancient narratives can inform and challenge contemporary societal norms. Despite their potential, these texts and contexts are often overlooked in academic discourse in India. By integrating them into educational settings, we can foster an academic ecosystem which seeks to create a holistic learning environment that respects and incorporates India's rich socio-cultural heritage.
