  • CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing systems have emerged as transformative tools in agricultural biotechnology, enabling precise genetic modifications for crop enhancement. However, the rapid adoption of this technology invites critical biosafety, ecological, and ethical evaluations. This paper explores CRISPR's role in improving crop resilience, nutrition, and quality while identifying biosafety concerns including gene flow, biodiversity risks, and regulatory inconsistencies. Drawing parallels from molecular diagnostics, we present recommendations for responsible deployment through improved risk assessments, stakeholder education, and ethical frameworks tailored to the Indian context.
