  • A heat exchanger is a device which is basically used for the transfer of thermal energy (enthalpy) between two or more fluids, between a solid surface and a fluid, or between solid particles and a fluid, which are in thermal contact and at different temperatures. Heat exchangers play a vital role in all modern day applications. Heat exchangers are used in cars, refrigerators, drain back systems, antifreeze solar hot water systems. In fact many of the houses have two or more heat exchangers. Heat exchangers have contributed tremendously in industrial sector and have a lot of industrial importance. The main objective of this paper is to illustrate the applications of heat exchangers in various sectors. The paper also emphasizes the classification and types of heat exchangers. Furthermore, the paper provides framework for the selection and preferable choice of heat exchangers. Apart from this, the paper also brings out the importance and significance of heat exchangers
