abstract = {Journalism in the digital age faces an array of challenges that threaten its core principles of truth, objectivity, and accountability. This study explores these challenges by examining the influence of funding sources, technological advancements, and the rise of digital media on contemporary journalism. It highlights how financial dependencies and ownership pressures can compromise journalistic integrity, leading to biased reporting and a decline in public trust. The advent of television and the subsequent digital revolution have reshaped the media landscape, providing new opportunities while also blurring the lines between reliable news sources and sensationalist tabloids, thus exacerbating the spread of misinformation.
Through a comprehensive review of literature and empirical data, this research identifies key challenges such as the proliferation of fake news, political bias, and revenue sustainability issues that undermine the credibility of journalism. It underscores the need for continuous vigilance in maintaining objectivity, promoting media literacy, and upholding ethical standards. This study is significant for policymakers and regulatory bodies as it provides insights necessary for developing policies that protect press freedom, enhance media literacy, and address ethical concerns in media practices. By proposing strategies to navigate these challenges, the research aims to uphold the essential functions of journalism in informing the public, fostering democratic participation, and holding power accountable.
