Corporate Social Responsibility in Odisha: Legal Mandates, Economic Impact, and Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Key Sectors

  • Unique Paper ID: 168640
  • PageNo: 1468-1489
  • Abstract:
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has evolved from a voluntary commitment to a legally mandated obligation, particularly in India. This paper focuses on the implications of CSR mandates in Odisha, exploring the economic impact on businesses and the entrepreneurial opportunities these mandates generate. Using Odisha as a geographical case study, with emphasis on India’s Companies Act 2013 (Section 135), the research examines how legal frameworks influence corporate behaviour toward socially responsible activities. The study highlights the economic outcomes of CSR policies in Odisha, such as improved profitability, brand reputation, and investor confidence. It also delves into the rise of social entrepreneurship and sustainability-focused ventures, driven by CSR obligations within the state. By evaluating CSR regulations and their local economic impacts, the paper assesses whether mandatory CSR encourages businesses in Odisha to view social responsibility as an economically viable strategy. The research provides a regional perspective on how CSR fosters innovation and economic sustainability, integrating law, economics, and entrepreneurship within the context of Odisha’s unique business environment.
