  • Abstract:
  • Nicotine addiction, driven by the addictive properties of nicotine, is a major public health concern responsible for millions of preventable deaths worldwide. While the toxic chemicals in cigarettes contribute to diseases such as cancer, respiratory illnesses, and cardiovascular conditions, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) aims to reduce the dependence on nicotine by delivering it through safer forms. NRT products, including patches, gum, and lozenges, provide controlled doses of nicotine to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings, thus facilitating smoking cessation. Each NRT method has advantages and disadvantages, such as convenience, customizable dosing, and potential side effects like skin irritation or gastrointestinal issues. Despite the effectiveness of NRT in supporting smoking cessation, patient compliance remains a challenge due to misconceptions, side effects, and complex dosing protocols. Behavioral counseling and comprehensive education can improve adherence and increase the likelihood of successful quitting.
