From delivered location to back to the warehouses: The growing problem faced by Amazon.com for performing its duties in supply chain of reverse logistics

  • Unique Paper ID: 171286
  • PageNo: 4039-4043
  • Abstract:
  • Amazon.com is an e-commerce platform that sells many product lines, including media (books, movies, music, and software), apparel, baby products, consumer electronics, beauty products, gourmet food, groceries, health and personal care products, industrial & scientific supplies, kitchen items, jewelry, watches, lawn and garden items, musical instruments, sporting goods, tools, automotive items, toys and games, and farm supplies and consulting services. Amazon websites, though some offer international shipping. Amazon faces a range of issues across its business operations, spanning logistics, workforce management, market dominance, and sustainability. Such an issue is that handling the high volume of returns, especially in categories like apparel, is costly. Processing, restocking, or disposing of returned products requires efficient ‘reverse logistics’, which is often challenging. Reverse Logistics is "the process of moving goods from their typical final destination for the purpose of capturing value, or proper disposal. Remanufacturing and refurbishing activities also may be included in the definition of reverse logistics.
