  • Virtual therapy has gained traction as a critical solution in providing mental health care, especially in remote and underserved areas. However, traditional online therapy platforms lack the ability to capture emotional cues that are vital for effective treatment. This review paper explores the state-of-the-art advancements in AI-powered emotional understanding, focusing on the integration of multimodal data such as text, voice, and facial expressions. We provide an overview of existing systems, discuss the methodologies employed, identify gaps, and propose future directions for leveraging AI in virtual therapy.
