AUTOMATIC RAIN PROTECTION FOR FIELD CROPS USING IOT

  • Abstract:
  • This paper presents a low-cost, automated system for smart crop monitoring and protection against unexpected rainfall. The proposed system utilizes an Arduino Uno microcontroller interfaced with an array of sensors including an infrared (IR) sensor for detecting animal intrusion, a fire sensor for early fire detection, and a rain sensor to detect the onset of rainfall. Upon detection of a threat, such as animal entry or fire, an audible alarm is triggered via a buzzer. Furthermore, when rainfall is detected, a servo motor is activated to deploy a protective covering over the crops, mitigating potential damage. Communication between the system and the user is facilitated through Bluetooth technology, enabling remote monitoring of sensor data and manual activation of the protective cover if needed. This intelligent system aims to provide farmers with a cost-effective and efficient solution for safeguarding their crops, thereby reducing losses and improving agricultural productivity. The integration of multiple sensors and automated response mechanisms, coupled with Bluetooth connectivity for user interaction, demonstrates a practical approach towards smart agriculture.
