abstract = {Birds are distributed throughout India in a variety of Habitats. Birds have played a unique role in the growth; protection and restoration of natural environment and thus their importance and significance and in the maintenance of clean and healthy environment are of a high order. Keeping in mind the above aspect, these studies were aimed to assess the ecological distribution of bird species in and around Yamuna Nagar. The Surveys were conducted in different areas of Yamuna Nagar from January 2022 to December 2022. In the present study, a total of 79 species of birds belonging to 38 families and 16 orders were identified from the study area. Maximum Number of species (27) belongs to order Passeriformes (34.17%) followed by Anseriformes and Coraciiformes. Similarly, we find large numbers of water birds belong to Family Anatidae (10.12%) of order Anseriformes. The Black Francolin which is State Bird of Haryana was also reported in large numbers from the study area. A majority of species (76) were in the least concern category of IUCN Red Data Book List. But 3 species namely Black-Headed Ibis, River Tern and River Lapwing were near threatened category out of 79 species reported from the study area. The most commonly found birds are: House Sparrow, House Crow, Common Myna, Bank Myna, Cattle Egret, Little Egret, Pond Heron, Jungle Babbler, Red Jungle Fowl, Peacock, Asian Koel, Red Wattled Lapwing, Yellow Wattled Lapwing, Rose Ringed Parakeet, Blue Rock Pigeon, Yellow Legged Green Pigeon, Spotted Dove, Black Drongo, Indian Robin, Wire – Tailed Swallow, Indian Treepie, Baya Weaver, Indian Tailor Bird, Red Vented Bulbul, White Wagtail, Coppersmith Barbet, Yellow Oriole, Common Kingfisher, White Breasted Kingfisher, and many others. Habitat heterogeneity across different sites of the study area contributes to varied bird species.},
