  • Abstract:
  • Pourakarmikas, the frontline sanitation workforce of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), are critical to the functioning of urban life. Despite their essential service, these workers face numerous work-life challenges, including poor working conditions, lack of job security, and limited social recognition. This empirical study assesses the quality of work life (QWL) of 200 pourakarmikas—both male and female—in selected BBMP zones. Using structured questionnaires and statistical tools, this study examines physical working conditions, emotional well-being, gender disparities, and socio-economic challenges. The findings reveal significant differences in QWL experiences based on gender and employment status. Recommendations are provided for policy reform, welfare support, and capacity-building efforts.
