  • Abstract:
  • The world has witnessed two major waves of globalization. The first wave began in 1870 and lasted until 1914. The second wave began after the end of the Second World War. The inter-war years saw reduced world output and trade particularly after the onset of the Great Depression. The developments in communications technology, the Information Technology and the improvements in transportation have changed the nature of the production process. Before the advent of the Industrial Revolution production was largely localized. However, we have witnessed the emergence of global supply chains during second wave of globalization. There has been call for de-globalization in advanced nations of the world. Globalization however is a historical process that is unlikely to be permanently reversed.
