Crop residue forms the major source of feed to the livestock and livestock sector support the crop sector in the form of draught power and organic manure; supplies hides, skin, bones, blood and fibers to the industrial sector; and provides transportation. Livestock sector also plays an important and vital role in providing nutritive food rich in animal protein, in supplementing family income and generating gainful employment in the rural sector, particularly among the landless, small, marginal fanners and women, and thus is a dependable “bankon hooves” in times of need. With the galloping growth in human population, the demand for crop and livestock production is ever increasing.},
