  • Abstract:
  • This study explores the relationship between rice production and economic growth in Nigeria from 1980 to 2022. Using data from the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), the research employs econometric analysis to investigate the dynamic relationship between rice production (RP), overall agricultural production (AGP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The findings reveal an asymmetrical relationship between the variables, indicating that advancements in rice yield capacity have the potential to significantly contribute to economic growth. The study recommends investing in agricultural infrastructure, such as irrigation systems, storage facilities, and modern farm equipment, to enhance efficiency and productivity in the rice sector. The results suggest that prioritizing rice production can unlock its full potential and contribute to economic growth. The study's findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to promote sustainable agricultural development and economic growth in Nigeria.
