  • Abstract:
  • There are three primary contributors to accidents globally: driver distractions, fatigued driving, and unsafe driving. A Real-Time Driver Monitoring and Safety Alert System that uses Artificial Intelligence has been developed to enhance driver safety by continuously monitoring driver actions through computer vision; the detection of the Eye Aspect Ratio; head position; and Object Detection by implementing the YOLO algorithm (You Only Look Once). This system will provide early identification of Unsafe Driving behaviours at an extremely high level of accuracy. These include behaviours such as Drowsiness, Distractions, Mobile Phone Use, Smoking, and Not Using the Safety Belt. When identified, the system will provide immediate Audio/Visual alerting to assist drivers in maintaining focus and ultimately prevent an accident from occurring. The Real-Time Driver Monitoring and Safety Alert System is designed to be used in the Indian market, and the deployment of this product in the Indian market would benefit both commercial and private vehicles given the traffic conditions and cost of the vehicle and its spikes in demand.
