  • The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a transformative technology for modern cities, facilitating a shift toward smart cities by integrating interconnected devices to enhance urban living. This paper explores the applications, challenges, and future prospects of IoT within the smart city framework. It delves into various IoT applications that improve efficiency in urban management, including traffic monitoring, waste management, and healthcare. Additionally, the paper discusses significant challenges such as data security, infrastructure costs, and device interoperability. Lastly, it presents potential future directions, highlighting advancements like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and edge computing that promise to overcome current limitations and unlock new possibilities for IoT in smart cities.
