abstract = {The global population of visually impaired individuals faces persistent barriers in accessing printed and environmental text. This paper presents a comprehensive review of smart glasses and wearable assistive systems that integrate Optical Character Recognition (OCR), image processing, and Text-to-Speech (TTS) technologies to address these challenges. Drawing upon four primary research sources, this review examines system architectures, hardware configurations, software pipelines, OCR preprocessing and feature extraction methodologies, and the practical challenges encountered in real-world deployment. We further explore emerging directions including deep learning-based OCR enhancement, multilingual support, augmented reality integration, and navigation-aware wearable systems. The findings indicate that while current prototypes demonstrate strong text recognition accuracy under controlled conditions, significant challenges remain in robustness under varying lighting, form factor miniaturization, multilingual capability, and real-time performance. This paper proposes a consolidated framework for future development of accessible, affordable, and intelligent assistive eyewear.},
