Edu-Platform: Design and Development of a MERN-Based Personalized Learning Dashboard with Role-Based Access Control and Real-Time Progress Tracking

  • When we first started this project, we spent a few weeks using existing platforms as regular students. Most of us gave up halfway through—not because the content was bad, but because there was no real sense of direction. None of the platforms we tested tell a student clearly: this is where you are, this is what comes next, this is how far you have left to go. So we built Edu-Platform—a MERN stack application (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) that gives teachers a proper path builder, gives students a progress dashboard that updates in real time, and gives institutions an admin approval step so content does not go live until reviewed. We also added Gemini API integration for AI-assisted module descriptions after reading VanLehn's work on automated feedback systems producing tutoring-level gains. A four-week pilot at D.Y. Patil Technical Campus with 48 participants yielded a SUS score of 84.5 (Grade A). Course completion in our group was 87.3% versus 50.5% in the control group—a 72.9% improvement that, frankly, surprised us.
