abstract = {Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) represents one of the most prevalent and lethal malignancies of the head and neck region, accounting for over 377,000 new cases annually worldwide. Despite its anatomical accessibility, OSCC is predominantly diagnosed at advanced stages, contributing to a persistently poor 5-year survival rate of 50–60%. Conventional diagnostic methods like tissue biopsy, clinical examination and imaging are inherently invasive and insufficient for real-time disease monitoring. Salivary liquid biopsy has emerged as a transformative, non-invasive diagnostic paradigm uniquely suited for OSCC, given saliva's direct anatomical contact with oral tumours. This review follows a structured outline encompassing: (1)The rationale for salivary liquid biopsy; (2)An overview of oral Cancer; (3)The concept of salivary biomarkers and liquid biopsy; (4)Types of biomarkers with elaboration on OSCC-specific relevance; (5)Clinical applications with reference to recent advanced literature; (6)Advantages; (7) limitations; (8)Future trends and the emerging role of artificial intelligence; and (9)Conclusion. Collectively, salivary liquid biopsy holds immense promise for early detection, prognostication, treatment monitoring and recurrence surveillance of OSCC, with AI-assisted multi-analyte platforms poised to redefine oral cancer diagnosis.},
