abstract = {The exponential growth of digital content has led to an overwhelming abundance of choice, particularly in the domain of book selection, where readers frequently experience decision fatigue and choice paralysis. This paper presents SmartPick, an AI-assisted decision support system designed to alleviate the cognitive burden of selecting a book from an extensive collection. The system employs a three-tier architecture comprising a React-based frontend with a Dark Academia aesthetic, a Node.js and Express RESTful API backend, and a MongoDB database housing over 52,000 book records imported from the Kaggle dataset. The core functionality includes ISBN-based book lookup, full-text search with pagination, random book discovery, side-by-side book comparison, and an ISBN scanner component with real-time validation. The backend implements strategic indexing for O(1) ISBN lookups and optimized text search, achieving sub-100 millisecond response times for 95% of requests. A CSV import service with batch processing and duplicate slug detection successfully imported 52,278 books with a failure rate of only 0.4%. The system was evaluated through comprehensive API testing, performance analysis, and user acceptance testing with five participants, all of whom successfully completed core tasks with an average satisfaction rating of 4.8 out of 5. The paper discusses the implementation challenges encountered, including duplicate slug generation and ISBN format variations, along with their respective solutions. SmartPick demonstrates the practical application of decision support principles, cognitive psychology concepts, and modern full-stack development practices in creating an intelligent book recommendation platform.},
