abstract = {The adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs)in rural communities plays a crucial role in improving healthcare quality, patient safety, and data management efficiency. However, despite the proven benefits of EHR systems such as enhanced clinical decision making, improved continuity of care, reduced medical errors, and better data accessibility the implementation in rural areas remains limited. This study examines the key barriers and enablers influencing EHR adoption in rural healthcare settings. Major barriers include inadequate digital infrastructure, unreliable internet connectivity, high implementation and maintenance costs, limited technical expertise, resistance to change among healthcare providers, data privacy concerns, and insufficient government support. Additionally, workforce shortages and lack of training opportunities further hinder effective system utilization. Conversely, several enablers promote successful adoption, including government incentives and policy support, affordable cloud-based EHR solutions, improved broadband connectivity, capacity-building programs, stakeholder engagement, and community awareness initiatives. Strong leadership, user-friendly system design, and ongoing technical support also significantly enhance acceptance and understanding these barriers and enablers is essential for policymakers, healthcare administrators, and technology providers to design targeted interventions that ensure equitable digital healthcare transformation in rural communities. Strengthening infrastructure, investing in training, and fostering collaborative partnerships can accelerate EHR implementation and ultimately improve health outcomes in underserved populations.
