  • Abstract:
  • Organization work culture is significant in determining the motivational levels and performance results of the employees. In the fast changing Information Technology (IT) industry where the basis of competitive advantage is intellectual capital, innovativeness and flexibility, the combination of organizational culture and employee behavior becomes of key importance. The study paper under investigation pertains to the multidimensional correlation between work culture and employee motivation and performance within IT organizations in India with focus on the leadership style, work-life balance, psychological safety, recognition systems, autonomy, and collaborative environment. Based on the known theoretical studies, such as the Hierarchy of Needs by Maslow, Two-Factor Theory by Herzberg, Theory X and Theory Y developed by McGregor, and the Organizational Culture Model by Schein, this paper incorporates primary and secondary data to critically assess the relationship between the toxic and constructive work cultures and the employee performance. The research finds out that a psychologically safe, autonomy-supportive, and recognition-based work culture is a strong influencer of intrinsic motivation, attrition reduction, and organizational productivity. On the other hand, cultures that are characterized by high-pressure, surveillance-oriented and hierarchical rigid also have high burnout rates, disengagement, and turnover intentions. This paper has ended by providing practical recommendations on how HR practitioners and organizational leaders in the IT industry can redesign the work culture as a strategic performance driver.
